It also keeps track of fractions of a rune as well. So at 3 runes complete, it will register 70%, 4=60%, 5=50%, etc. After that, it drops by 10% failure chance for every 200 lights earned. Since it takes 100 FATES to fill up only one rune, a more accurate measure of your progress would be talking to the quest drone in Azys Lla, nearby Gerolt.Īs far as I can tell, the failure chance starts at 75% and remains there until you have finished 2 1/2 runes. In reality, no person can do it all alone. This is a quick way to get burnt out and lose our connection with others. We’re often told to hustle hard, and not burden others with our problems. Western and American cultures often have us look the other way – self reliance, independence, be the first and best. When we live with ubuntu, we acknowledge that a key part of the human experience is our relationships with, and reliance on, other people. Ubuntu speaks to the idea of collective humanity. A meaningful and well-lived life is enjoyed by supporting and being supported by others. If you can take one thing away from the concept of Ubuntu and apply it to daily life let it be this: No person is an island. Let’s see how you can use Ubuntu to inspire a mindset shift. But what would it mean to apply this concept to your daily life?īelow I’ve outlined some of the many ways you can apply the Ubuntu philosophy to your day-to-day thinking. Using Ubuntu Philosophy in Daily LifeĪs we can see, the concept of Ubuntu is a wide-reaching one, able to apply to political concepts and philosophical modes of thought. He ruled with the principle that leadership comes from a place of peace for humanity, and a focus on working to help heal a greater whole through cooperation, connection, and community. As a part of his leadership, he often relied on the concept as he helped post-apartheid South Africa unify. Nelson Mandela also famously spoke from this concept. When you live with Ubuntu, you live in a way where you are open to others and know that by helping others you become a richer human as well. This provides another angle on the philosophy of Ubuntu. Recently, Desmond Tutu popularized this philosophy in his book No Future Without Forgiveness, In this book, he describes someone with Ubuntu as a person who is “open and available to others, affirming of others … has a proper self-assurance.” Its roots are in African humanism, focused on the idea that community is the basis of society, and the idea of collective humanity defining us as human beings. The concept of Ubuntu has an interesting history, having been adopted by many thinkers and philosophers in its lifetime. On paper, this all sounds quite simple, but putting it into practice isn’t always easy. In this mindset, the thing humanity needs to prioritize are the ways we treat each other. It says that your humanity is formed through relationships, making how we relate to and treat one another vital to our essence. Ubuntu is asking you to view yourself not as an individual, but part of a group. This is notable, because it shifts the focus away from the individual, and towards the collective. Ubuntu asks us to reflect on how we exist as a collective, and how much of the self (your own humanity, your own personhood) is formed through how we relate to others. That we live as a shared humanity, and our human-ness comes not from individual experiences, but our relationships. In essence, this ethic tells us that we find identity through our relationships with one another. Let’s dive deeper into the definition of Ubuntu a little bit more to appreciate the complexity and depthfulness of the term.Īs we touched on above, the most widely accepted definition comes from a Zulu phrase that teaches us that human beings are human beings because of their relationships with other human beings. And, like all philosophy, it can help us better unpack the workings of our lives, and learn lessons about the truths of ourselves. It can be used as a moral theory when debating anything from human rights to apartheid to basic human dignity.Īfrican philosophy is rooted in a deep and complex tradition of morals and ethics. Though this definition sounds simple at first, it represents a mode of African humanism ( a mode of humanism rooted in the belief that no human being is superior to another) and an evolving political philosophy that can get complex when you break it down. This phrase, “ Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu” translates roughly to “a person is a person through other people.” While the concept has many different definitions and translations, the most popular definition comes from a Zulu phrase. The word Ubuntu is nothing new, with references to it being found as far back as 1846. Let’s start at the beginning: What is Ubuntu? And what does it mean? Let’s dive in and learn more! What Is Ubuntu? While it has been around for centuries, it was largely popularized in Southern Africa by Nelson Mandela, who gave the concept the international reach it has achieved today.īut what exactly is Ubuntu? What does it mean? And what can humanity learn from this concept? The Ubuntu ethic is a philosophy born from African philosophy. If you ask someone from South Africa to define the African Ubuntu philosophy they’d have plenty to say! But ask the average North American, and you’ll probably find a whole lot of head-scratching. With a total of six different kinds of Z-Orbs available, you will most commonly come across those in the color of Green, Blue, and Red. One of the biggest mistakes that I made early on in the game was not collecting all of the Z-Orbs that can be found scattered throughout every location that you visit.Įxplained only vaguely during the main story, Z-Orbs are an essential aspect of the game, as they provide the player with the ability to unlock all new Super Attacks and skills that can be used to increase your damage capabilities. So, next time your in the market for some quick items, make a pit stop at one of the nearby villages. Surprisingly, these shops tend to stock items that can be used for healing, such as Vitadrink's. You can answer the phone, and the Freewire will handle all the audio for the phone call, both in and out.įollow the same setup as before, adding a Freewire to the passenger mic socket. This isn't a problem, as the Venture infotainment system shows you when someone calls (along with their number) and flashes text messages on the screen, etc etc. This is because most headsets only let you pair one phone, and since the Freewire uses the phone pairing feature, you wont be able to use it for phone and Freewire at the same time. If you're using a smartphone, pair the smartphone with the infotainment system on the bike, not the BT headset. You can leave the intercom off in the infotainment system and use the PTT for the CB. Once this is done, you're pretty much set. Thus, it's just a matter of 1) plugging the Freewire into the bike helmet socket, 2) mounting the Freewire on your bike (handlebar is easiest), 3) turning the Freewire on, and 4) pairing your BT headset with the Freewire. Sena has a video on Youtube that quickly shows how to pair the Freewire with your BT headset (see below). Passenger can't have access to their own phone AND a Freewire at the same time (the infotainment system only allows one phone to be connected for calls at a time). It's wireless/BT, so expect some delay when using the mic. Keeping the various options straight can be a bit of a learning curve. Current price is $225 per unit, and you'll need two if you want to include your passenger's access to the on-board audio. One headset can accomplish music, intercom and CB communications without overlapping.Įxpensive. More flexible options on how to handle intercom. Your helmet is no longer tethered to the bike. The 2018 Venture uses the same 7-pin connector as modern Harley-Davidsons, so the Freewire for Harley-Davidson is the version you need to buy. This allows two-way audio (speakers and mic) between your BT headset and the bike's on-board audio system. The adapter plugs into the wired connection on your bike then, you pair your BT headset to the adapter using the BT headset's phone pairing feature. The Sena Freewire is a wired-to-Bluetooth adapter. You can certainly use BT headsets and chat with your rider via the BT intercom, and then have your bike audio play out via the speakers, but then you have no way of talking out via the CB. This causes issues because the PTT for the intercom is also used for the CB, so if you use both, every time you talk via the on-board intercom, you broadcast the conversation via CB. 2) You are forced to use the on-board intercom to speak to each other. Step away, and you have to unplug, losing your connection, among other annoyances. 1) You and the passenger are tethered to the bike. This is all well and good, but poses some issues. The only way to get a headset hooked up to the system is via a 7-pin headset connector (available for both rider and passenger). The issue at hand is that the 2018 Star Venture does not have the capability to pair a wireless Bluetooth headset to the infotainment system. This post isn't meant as an advertisement for Sena. I mention these products because a) I own them or have ordered them, b) I know that they work, and c) I use them because they work and/or I like them. Let me say up front that I'm not a Sena employee, nor am I getting any kind of monetary compensation for any of this. I wanted to put up this post to explain how this works, what you need, some gotchas to look out for, and the various ways you can use the setup to accomplish what you want. I've noted in several posts that some of the limitations of the wired setup of the 2018 Star Venture can be overcome with a Sena Freewire setup.
